Welcome to Cheddar Cricket Club 2008
The 2007 season will be remembered by many involved with Cheddar CC as one of the best ever. The Club’s 125th year was marked with an unforgettable day entertaining the Lashings World XI and a superb end of season dinner as well as several other important fundraising events. The profile of the club continues to grow and we are fast becoming the envy of many clubs in the local area and beyond. On the field we were able to compete admirably with our 4 senior sides finishing healthily placed in their respective leagues. Indeed, the 4th XI proved that a mix of youth and experience is the perfect combination for cricketing success as they gained league promotion.
With the arrival this season of several new faces to strengthen the playing staff, all 4 teams should be challenging for league honours in 2008. One new signing sure to make a positive impact is the arrival of Simon Doyle from South Africa. Simon is a young fast bowler who has already played provincial cricket in his homeland and will, I am sure, be an exciting addition to the senior side.
Our numerous junior cricketers were a real credit to the club last year both in terms of performance and conduct. The future of the club is extremely bright with so much talent and enthusiasm coming up through the ranks. The youngsters have been indebted to the incredible time and energy provided by so many parents and helpers and I hope that these unsung heroes realise the invaluable role they play in the continued forward development of the club.
The fact that Cheddar CC continues to develop at such a pace is largely due to the dynamism and dedication of its Committee who continue to work tirelessly for the cause. The most recent fruits of their labours will see the completion of our permanent outdoor nets at Sharpham Road. This custom built facility will provide a fantastic boost to players of all ages and abilities who hope to seriously develop their technical skills for the game. The all weather nets will be a fitting legacy from the current Committee for the benefit of Cheddar cricketers for many years to come.
I will take this opportunity to thank all our vice presidents, sponsors and other friends of the club for their continued support and we look forward to seeing plenty of you during the coming season. As Club Captain I remain extremely proud and privileged to be involved with such a vibrant and forward looking club and I wish everybody involved, particularly the players, a highly successful and enjoyable season 2008.
